Ride The Self-Awareness Superhighway....

Over the past decade, I’ve been on a self-awareness journey that’s felt more like a rollercoaster than a straightforward ride.

There have been moments of clear progress and others marked by significant setbacks or "crashes," which represent the breaking down of old biases and conditioned perspectives.

I describe this ongoing process of breaking and rebuilding as ‘Kintsugi’ for the soul.

When leaders ask how long this journey will take, I remind them that, just as it took time to arrive at their current point, this path also requires patience and effort, with no shortcuts or quick fixes.

My role is to help them embark on the self-awareness superhighway, monitor their progress, and ensure they stay on course.

Reflection Time: Pause for a moment and consider the ‘crashes’ in your life that have driven your personal growth. How have these experiences reshaped your view of the world?

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.’

The Self-Awareness Superhighway

This edition of the newsletter is dedicated to my friend and colleague, Dr Nia D. Thomas, a respected academic and leader, and author of the book The Self-Awareness Superhighway.

I highly recommend the book for leaders seeking to understand self-awareness and leadership effectiveness.

It introduces nine CHARTABLE compass points, including care, humility, and authenticity, to guide readers from basic leadership to self-aware leadership.

The book also offers people-focused guidance to help navigate workplace challenges and encourages leaders to recognise their impact on others and make informed, awareness-driven decisions.

I was fortunate to be a guest on Nia’s podcast, The Knowing Self, Knowing Others Podcast, where we talked about Navigating Burnout through Work-Life Harmony.

Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.’

Practical Tip to Start Today

Start and end your day with some Gratitude Breathing.

Fun Corner: Self-Awareness Challenge

“The Day in Reverse.”

At the close of each day, try reviewing your day in reverse order.

Begin with the present moment and trace your steps back to when you first woke up.

The approach challenges your mind and provides a new perspective on how your day unfolded, potentially highlighting patterns in your behaviour and thoughts that you might otherwise miss.
